Extend Storage Pool

Use this page to extend the the storage pool that you selected in the Storage Pools tab. If you selected a storage pool that is based on volume groups, you can add physical volumes to it. If you selected a storage pool that is file-based, you can extend the storage pool into the free space of its parent storage pool.

When you add a physical volume to a storage pool, the managed system erases the information on the physical volume, divides the physical volume into physical partitions, and adds the capacity of the physical partitions to the storage pool.

Do not add a physical volume to the storage pool if the physical volume contains data that you want to preserve.

Storage pool

This field displays the name of the storage pool that you want to extend.

Parent storage pool

This field displays the name of the Volume Group-based storage pool that is the parent of this storage pool and the amount of space that is available on the parent. This field only displays if you are extending a file-based storage pools.

Current size

This field displays the amount of space in the parent storage pool that is currently allocated to this storage pool. This field only displays if you are extending a file-based storage pools.

Amount to extend

Specify the amount of storage you want to add to the storage pool. The storage pool is extended by using available space on its parent storage pool. You can specify the amount in megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), or terabytes (TB). This is only available if you are extending a file-based storage pool.

Physical volume table

This table lists the physical volumes on your managed system that are currently not assigned to any logical partition or to any storage pool. This table only displays if you are extending a Volume Group-based storage pool.

You can select physical volumes to add to the storage pool by selecting the Select option beside the physical volumes that you want to add.

The table includes the following information about each physical volume:

Physical Volume
This column displays the name of each physical volume.
Size
This column displays the size of each physical volume in megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), or terabytes (TB).
Physical Location Code
This column displays the physical location code identifying the location of each physical volume within the managed system.
