Validation - Deploy System Plan Wizard

Use this page to view validation information for the system plan that you are deploying. The Deploy System Plan wizard validates the system plan prior to deployment to ensure that it can be deployed successfully.

The wizard validates the system plan in two phases. The first phase of the validation process is Hardware validation. During this phase, the wizard is validating that the processors, memory, and I/O adapters that are available on the managed system match or exceed those that the system plan specifies. The wizard also validates that the hardware placement on the managed system matches the hardware placement that the system plan specifies.

The second phase of the validation process is Partition validation. During this phase, the wizard validates that the logical partitions on the managed system match those in the system plan. If the system plan contains provisioning information, the wizard also validates that the managed system does not have any partitions that are currently provisioned.

Review the Validation Messages to determine whether there are any hardware or partitioning inconsistencies between the system plan and the target managed server. The first message provides information about the saved system inventory file that the wizard used to validate the system plan for the target managed system.

The wizard must successfully validate that the system plan meets all of the following requirements before you can continue the deployment process for the system plan:

• The Hardware Management Console (HMC) supports the system-plan schema level.
• The format of the system plan is valid.
• The processors, memory, and I/O adapters that are available on the managed system match or exceed the processors, memory, and I/O adapters that the system plan requires.
• The hardware placement specified in the system plan matches the hardware placement on the managed system. (Note: If the system plan specifies that a slot is open, any hardware can be in that slot on the managed system.)
• The logical partitions that currently exist on the managed system also exist in the system plan.
• The logical partitions that currently exist on the managed system do not own resources that are required by other logical partitions in the system plan.

The Deploy System Plan wizard does not validate the disk drives that are attached to physical I/O adapters against the disk drives specified in the system plan. You must ensure that the disk drives that are installed on the managed system support your desired logical partition configuration.

The wizard does not stop the validation process when it encounters an error, but continues the process until it performs a validation check for all items. If the system plan does not pass all validation checks, you must address all errors before you make another attempt to deploy the system plan.
