Remote Service

Use this window to provide your service provider with temporary access to initiate a remote service connection to a local console, such as a Hardware Management Console (HMC), or to the partitions of a managed system.

Select the type of connection you want to make from the local console to your service provider, either using a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) station address for the dial protocol, or a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for the Internet. Choosing PPP requires an address supplied by your service provider.

Use a check box to specify that you want to allow access to one of the following for an attended remote service session:

• The local console, such as an HMC
• Partitions of a managed system:
• Click the down arrow to select the managed system to be accessed.
• From the partitions list, select up to six partitions to be accessed on the managed system.

After you choose the connection type and specify the access information, click Prepare to start the connection for the remote service session.
