Use this page to add Host Channel Adapter (HCA) resources to the partition profile. The HCA resources are assigned to the logical partition when you use the partition profile to activate the logical partition. If the selected HCA resources are not available, you cannot activate the logical partition using the partition profile.
HCAs are not supported for IBMi partitions.
To configure HCA resources for this partition profile, select an HCA in the table and click Configure to enter the appropriate information.
To remove HCA resources from the partition profile, select the Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) in the table and click Clear.
The table contains the following information:
- Physical location
- The physical location of the adapter on the managed system.
- GUID Index
- A number from 1 through 62 that identifies the actual GUID to be assigned to the partition.
- GUID
- The actual GUID to be assigned to the partition. A GUID is an eight-byte sequence of hexidecimal numbers that identifies a node. The first seven bytes of the GUID uniquely identify the HCA within the InfiniBand fabric. All GUIDs on an HCA start with the same first seven bytes. The last byte of each GUID is formed by subtracting 1 from the GUID index and converting the result to hexidecimal.
- Capability
- The amount of resource to be allocated to the GUID from the HCA. Possible values in the Capability column are:
- Low
1/16 (6.25%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID. Because the resources are not evenly divided, the maximum number of partitions that can be activated with Low is 15.- Medium
1/8 (12.5%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.- High
1/4 (25%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.- Dedicated
All (100%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.- HMC Managed
- Indicates whether the Hardware Management Console (HMC) is able to manage the assignment of the GUIDs. If the value is No, the adapter is in an error state that prevents the HMC from configuring the GUID allocation.
