Required/This adapter is required for partition activation

This option indicates whether the virtual Ethernet adapter is required for partition activation. If this option is selected, then you can activate the logical partition only if the virtual Ethernet adapter can be used for the logical partition. Also, you cannot remove the virtual Ethernet adapter from the logical partition using dynamic logical partitioning.
