Required/This adapter is required for partition activation

This option indicates whether the virtual serial adapter is required for partition activation. If this option is selected, then you can activate the logical partition only if the virtual serial adapter can be used for the logical partition. Also, you cannot remove the virtual serial adapter from the logical partition using dynamic logical partitioning if the virtual serial adapter is required.
