Mover service partition

A mover service partition is a Virtual I/O Server logical partition with the following characteristics:

For active partition migration, at least one mover service partition is required on the source system and one is required on the destination system.

The source and destination mover service partitions communicate with each other over the network. These connections enable active partition migration:

  1. On the source system, the mover service partition extracts the partition state information of the migrating partition from the hypervisor.
  2. The mover service partition on the source system sends the partition state information to the mover service partition on the destination system.
  3. On the destination system, the mover service partition installs the partition state information on the hypervisor.
Note: The mover service partitions send and receive small amounts of data at a time. Thus, these steps continuously overlap and are repeated until all of the data is transferred.
