Partition Migration: Profile Name

Use the Partition Migration: Profile Name page to specify the name of the new partition profile that will be created for the migrating partition on the destination system. You can use up to 31 characters for the partition profile name. The partition profile name can consist of uppercase letters (A through Z), lowercase letters (a through z), numerals (0 through 9), spaces, and the following special characters: comma (,), period (.), slash (/), semicolon (;), colon (:), tilde (~), at (@), pound (#), caret (^), hyphen (-), underscore (_), equals (=), plus (+), left brace ({), and right brace (}). Characters with diacritical marks, which are accent marks added to a letter to alter a word's pronunciation, are not allowed.

By default, the HMC creates a migration profile containing the partition's current state. This migration profile can be saved in a new profile or used to replace an existing profile. One typical scenario is to write the migration profile back to the same profile used to activate the partition.

You might update the profile name to save the migration profile in either a new profile or a different existing profile. This might be done when you use dynamic logical partitioning. The resources currently in use by the partition are likely to be different than when the partition was activated. If you do not want to alter the current activation profile then you should save the migration profile under a new profile name.

The partition migration wizard moves all the logical partition profiles defined for the migrating partition on the source system to the destination system. After the partition has been moved, the partition profiles defined for that partition no longer exist on the source system.
