Use this page to select the I/O devices that are associated with this partition profile. For each I/O device you select, you can specify either that the I/O device is required for logical partition activation, or that you can activate the logical partition without the I/O device.
Note: Shared memory partitions cannot have physical I/O, so if you specified that this partition uses shared memory, you will not be able to assign I/O devices to this partition.
This page lists all of the I/O slots that are currently in your managed system. The list contains a description of the I/O adapter in each I/O slot if an operating system has read the I/O adapters and reported the information to the HMC.
To add an I/O slot to the partition profile, select the I/O slot and click either Add as required or Add as desired. You can change whether a device is required or desired by selecting the slot and click either Add as required or Add as desired.
To remove an I/O slot from the partition profile, select the I/O slot and click Remove.
To display the properties of any of the I/O devices in this area, click the slot number for the I/O device.
The table contains the following information:
- Unit
- This column identifies the unit in which the I/O slot is located.
- Bus
- This column identifies the bus on which the I/O slot is located.
- Slot
- This column identifies the slot number that identifies the I/O slot within the unit and bus.
- Added
- This column displays whether each I/O device is assigned to the partition profile. Required indicates that the I/O device is assigned as required, and Desired indicates that the I/O device is assigned as desired. If this column is blank, the I/O device is not assigned to the partition profile.
- Description
- This column displays a description of the I/O device in each slot.
If the I/O device is an I/O processor (IOP), this description is either PCI I/O Processor or I/O Processor.
If the slot is empty, this description is Empty slot.
Otherwise, the wizard uses the first description it finds in the following hierarchy.
- Description of the custom card identification number (CCIN)
- Description of the feature code
- Description of the Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) class code
- Unknown
- Location Code
- This column displays the location code that describes the location of each I/O device on your managed system.
