Operations Console Device

Use this page to select the directly attached Operations Console device (asynchronous communications adapter) that is associated with this partition profile. (This was formerly known as the ECS device.) The directly attached Operations Console device is an adapter used to support either a directly attached Operations Console or to support an asynchronous modem. Connect the Operations Console device to an external line so that your managed system can send information to your support provider when the managed system encounters problems.

This page does not apply to Operations Console devices that are connected to a Local Area Network (LAN). If the Operations Console device for this managed system is connected to a LAN, click Next to continue to the next page.

Only one logical partition per managed system needs to have a directly attached Operations Console device enabled.

You can designate either an I/O processor (IOP) or an I/O adapter (IOA) as your directly attached Operations Console device. If you select the IOA, then the system will find the directly attached Operations Console device more quickly when you start IBM i for the first time.

This page displays only devices that you selected for the partition profile on the I/O page. If the device that you want to use as the directly attached Operations Console device does not display on this page, click Back until you return to the I/O page, select the directly attached Operations Console device for the partition profile, and click Next until you return to this page.
