Console Selection

Use this page to indicate whether you want to use the HMC 5250 emulator, a Logical Host Ethernet Adapter (LHEA) port, or another device as the console that is associated with this partition profile.

If you choose to use the HMC as your console device, HMC 5250 emulation is the only method that you can use to establish console sessions on the logical partition. You can establish console sessions locally on the HMC or remotely through the HMC, but you will not be allowed to establish console sessions using Operations Console or a twinaxial console.

HMC 250 console emulation provides a dependable connection that you can use if no other terminal or console device is connected or operational. HMC 5250 console emulation is particularly useful during initial system setup, before you have configured your console of choice. You can switch your console device to some other device type after initial system setup is complete.

If you choose not to use the HMC as your console device, you must select the device that you want to use as your console device instead of the HMC. You will select your console device in the next step.

Consider your backup console device strategy when choosing which type of device is to be your console device.
