Use this window to select or change the alternate restart device that is associated with this partition profile. This device is also known as the alternate IPL device.
You can designate either an I/O processor (IOP) or an I/O adapter (IOA) as your alternate restart device. If you select the IOA, then the system will find the alternate restart device more quickly when you start IBM i for the first time.
This window displays only devices that are selected for this partition profile on the Physical I/O page. If the desired alternate restart device does not display here, then click Cancel, click Physical I/O, and ensure that the desired alternate restart device is selected for the partition profile.
There are rules regulating where you can place the alternate restart device for IBM i logical partitions. These rules vary by server or expansion unit model.
Any change you make on this window takes effect only after you shut down the logical partition and reactivate the logical partition associated with this partition profile.
