Console Device
Use this window to change the console device controller that is associated with this partition profile.
You can designate either an I/O processor (IOP) or an I/O adapter (IOA) as your console device controller.
- If you designate an IOP as the console device controller, then the managed system uses rules (such as the console type byte) to determine which IOA on that IOP is used as the console device IOA. The managed system can pick different IOAs at different times. The only way to prevent a console-capable IOA from being picked as the console device IOA is to attach the IOA to an IOP other than your console device controller IOP.
- If you designate an IOA as the console device controller, then you ensure that the logical partition uses the console device attached to that IOA. You will not be able to switch the console function to another console device without shutting down and restarting the logical partition.
This window displays only devices that are selected for this partition profile on the Physical I/O page. If the console device controller you want to use does not display here, click Cancel, click Physical I/O, and ensure that the console device controller is selected for the partition profile.
Any change you make on this window takes effect only after you shut down the logical partition and reactivate
the logical partition that is associated with this partition profile.
