Use this window to select or change the alternate console device that is associated with this partition profile. You can use this device to control the logical partition that is associated with this partition profile if the primary console device becomes unavailable.
You are not required to select an alternate console device.
The alternate console is used only if the console device and the alternate console device are both twinaxial consoles. If the logical partition uses another type of console device, you will use other recovery methods if the console fails. For example, if you use 5250 emulation on your Hardware Management Console (HMC) and your current HMC fails, you can replace the HMC and start a new console session with the new HMC. If you use Operations Console, you can either switch to HMC 5250 emulation or use the takeover and recovery function to switch to different hardware.
This window displays only devices that are selected for this partition profile on the Physical I/O page. If the console device you want to use does not display here, click Cancel, click Physical I/O, and ensure that the console device is selected for the partition profile.
Any change you make on this page takes effect only after you shut down the logical partition and reactivate the logical partition associated with this partition profile.
