Use this window to view information about the status of the HMC connection to the service processors on the managed system.
You can see the state of the connection from the HMC to the primary and secondary service processors. The HMC will operate normally with a connection to only the primary service processor. However, for code update operations and some concurrent maintenance operations on the managed system, the HMC needs connections to both the primary and secondary service processors. If no secondary service processor is installed, only one connection to the primary service processor is required.
If you are viewing the connection status for a managed system that is capable of service processor failover, you can also enable or disable service processor failover support on the managed system. The service processor failover support is a transparent operation that switches to a standby service processor on the managed system in the event of a hardware failure. On this window, you can see whether the service processor is ready for failover or not. If the service processor is not ready for failover, the reason that it is not ready is shown in the Reason field.
If service processor failover occurs and the HMC does not have connections to both the primary and secondary service processors, then the HMC will not be able to establish a connection to the managed system after failover has completed.
