Select the type of installation to perform
The choices available depend on the concurrency states
of the targeted systems.
You can change the type currently selected
for managed system and Power updates.
Select one of the following:
- Concurrent install and activate
- Specifies a nondisruptive
installation, allowing you to apply updates concurrently to all
systems at that level.
A concurrent update can be installed and
activated without rebooting partitions or disrupting applications.
- Concurrent install only, with deferred disruptive activate
- Specifies that the LIC updates will be installed but not activated
until a Disruptive Activate is performed.
The activation is deferred until the Disruptive Activate.
- Disruptive install and activate
- Specifies that the LIC updates will be installed
and an immediate system restart will be performed to install and activate the updates.
A disruptive action indicates that a system restart is required.
- Disruptive install and activate -
Power off automatically, if necessary. (Shortest overall update time)
- Specifies that
during a disruptive install and activate update, the
HMC controls the power off.
The managed system automatically powers off, when necessary,
ensuring the shortest update lapsed time.
- Disruptive install and activate -
Delay power off with confirmation. (Shortest system down time)
- Specifies that during a disruptive install and activate update,
you control the power off.
When all nondisruptive updates have completed, you will be prompted to quiesce, or close,
applications running on the system before continuing with the update.
The managed system power off is delayed until you want to quiesce, or close,
applications running on the system, ensuring the shortest system down time.
Note: Depending on your choices,
you may encounter an error message.
For example, if a target with disruptive updates
(All must be disruptively activated)
is selected and the install type is set to
Concurrent install and activate, this conflict will be
reflected in an error message.
