Modify Virtual Disk Partition Assignment

Use this page to change the logical partition assignment setting for the selected virtual disks. (Virtual disks are also known as Volume Groups.) You can change the logical partition to which these virtual disks are assigned or set the virtual disks so that they are not assigned to any logical partition.

You can add virtual disks to or remove virtual disks from any logical partition, regardless of whether the logical partition is running. If you remove a virtual disk from a running logical partition, you are prompted to confirm the removal before the virtual disk is removed.

New partition assignment

Select the partition name and partition ID of the logical partition to which you want to assign the virtual disks listed on this page. Select None if you do not want to assign the virtual disks to any logical partition.

(Virtual disk table)

Lists the virtual disks whose logical partition assignment settings are to be changed.

Note: Any data on the virtual disk associated with the current partition assignment will not be available in the future after reassigning the disk to a different partition.

This list includes the following information for each virtual disk.

Possible values for the current partition state are as follows.

Running
The logical partition is powered on and running.
Starting
The logical partition is in the process of powering on.
Open Firmware
The logical partition is in System Management Services (SMS) mode. The logical partition is in SMS mode if the server cannot find the boot device, if the logical partition is set to use SMS boot mode or Open Firmware OK prompt boot mode, or if the user presses F1 while starting the logical partition.
Not Activated
The logical partition is shut down. If the managed system is powered off, the state of the logical partition is always Off.
Shutting down
The logical partition is in the process of powering off.
Error
The logical partition is running, but it requires attention. Use the partition reference code to determine the problem.
Unknown
The logical partition requires attention. There is no partition reference code that you can use to determine the problem.

Force device removal from running partitions.

This field displays only when a virtual disk is assigned to an active partition (in any state other than Not Activated). Select this option to confirm the forced removal of the virtual disk from the running assigned partition.
