Physical Volume Properties

Use this page to view the properties of the selected physical volume.

Name

Indicates the name of the physical volume.

Assigned partition

Indicates the partition name and partition ID of the logical partition to which the physical volume is assigned (if any). None indicates that the physical volume does not belong to any logical partition. A physical volume cannot belong to a logical partition and to a storage pool at the same time.

Physical volume identifier

Indicates the PVID assigned to the physical volume. This field will appear blank if the physical volume does not have a PVID.

Physical location code

Indicates the physical location of the selected physical volume within the managed system.

Size

Indicates the size of the selected physical volume in megabytes (MB). If the size is greater than 1024 MB, the size also displays in gigabytes (GB).

Physical partition size

Indicates the amount of space available in the Volume Group based storage pool.

When you add a physical volume to a volume group, the physical volume is partitioned into contiguous, equal-sized units of space called physical partitions. A physical partition is the smallest unit of storage space allocation and is a contiguous space on a physical volume. Physical volumes inherit the volume group's physical partition size.

Storage pool

Indicates the name of the storage pool to which the physical volume belongs (if any). (Default) after the storage pool name indicates that the physical volume belongs to the default storage pool. None indicates that the physical volume does not belong to any storage pool. A physical volume cannot belong to a storage pool and to a logical partition at the same time.

Logical volumes

Indicates the names of the Volume Groups whose information is stored on this physical volume. This list contains both AIX logical volumes that VIOS uses internally as well as any virtual disks that depend on this physical disk. You cannot remove this physical volume from the storage pool if the information of any Volume Group is stored on the physical volume. Also, these Volume Groups will be affected if this physical volume fails or is removed.

Volume Groups displays only for physical volumes that belong to a storage pool.
