You can view the license log for the cluster
from the Viewing
License Setting Log panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console.
Introduction
The
license log contains a record of events and errors
that are related to the license settings. Errors are specific to the
licensing scheme that you selected. Typically, the license log contains
entries because license options are set during the Web-based create
cluster process. However, the license log might contain entries that
were created in a previous version of the code and that relate to
events other than those in the following lists.
Capacity
Licensing
If you have Capacity Licensing scheme, the following
events cause entries in the log:
- License settings
are changed.
- Licensed virtualized capacity is reduced below
the current amount
of used capacity.
- Virtualized storage capacity exceeds the
amount that you are currently
licensed to use.
- Licensed virtualized capacity is changed
to value where the amount
of used capacity is above 90%.
- Virtualized storage usage
exceeds 90% of the licensed capacity.
- Licensed Metro Mirror
and Global Mirror capacity is changed to
a value less than the current amount of used capacity.

where the amount of used capacity is above 90%.
- FlashCopy storage
usage exceeds the amount
that you are licensed to use.
- FlashCopy storage
usage exceeds 90% of
what you are currently licensed to use.
- SAN Volume Controller
software is upgraded from a version where FlashCopy licenses
did not specify a limit.
- SAN Volume Controller software is
upgraded from a version where
Metro Mirror and Global Mirror license did not specify a limit.
- The Virtualization limit is not set to a whole number of terabytes.
Physical Disk Licensing
If
you have a Physical Disk Licensing scheme, the following events cause
entries in the log:
- License settings are changed.
- The Metro
Mirror and Global Mirror license
setting is set to off, but Metro
Mirror or Global Mirror relationships
are currently configured on the cluster.
- The FlashCopy license
setting is set to off, but FlashCopy mappings
are currently configured on the cluster.
Note: Dumping an empty license
log produces a file that contains headers, 256 lines of formatted
zeros, and two lines of identification and checksum information.
