Viewing IP addresses

Use the Viewing IP Address panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to view the IP addresses associated with the cluster.

Introduction

You manage a SAN Volume Controller through an Ethernet connection to one of the two cluster Ethernet ports. At any point in time, one node, which is known as the configuration node, has an active management interface. If this node goes offline, another node takes over the role and responds to the same cluster Ethernet port address. Port 1 must always be configured and connected, the use of Port 2 is optional. Configuring both ports provides redundancy for the Ethernet connections. If you have configured both ports and you cannot connect through one IP address, you should attempt to access the cluster through the alternate IP address. The SAN Volume Controller supports both IPv4 and IPv6 address formats. Cluster Ethernet ports can have either IPv4 addresses or IPv6 addresses or both. In addition, SAN Volume Controller nodes support connections to iSCSI-attached hosts through Ethernet ports, where a different set of IP addresses is configured for iSCSI-attached host connections.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table for SAN Volume Controller Console IP address and port:

SAN Volume Controller console
Displays the IP address and port of the SAN Volume Controller Console that created or last modified the cluster.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table for the cluster Ethernet ports:
Note: If the cluster uses a second Ethernet port to provide redundancy, then two tables display with information about both ports. The attributes are the same for each of the Ethernet ports. Ethernet port 1 must be configured and connected; the use of Ethernet port 2 is optional.
IP address
Displays the IP address of the cluster. SAN Volume Controller supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
Service IP Address
Displays the IP address that is used if the node has to be started after it has been removed from the cluster. SAN Volume Controller Console supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
Subnet Mask
Displays the subnet mask of the cluster. Subnet masks are only valid for IPv4 addresses.
Prefix
Displays the network prefix that is associated with the IPv6 cluster and service IP addresses. Valid values are 0 - 127.
Default Gateway
Displays the IP address for the default gateway for the cluster.
