Introduction
Space-efficient
virtual disks (VDisks) and mirrored copies of VDisks affect the space
capacity of a cluster. A space-efficient VDisk has different virtual
capacity and real capacity. A VDisk copy is a physical copy of the
data that is stored on a VDisk. Mirrored VDisks have two such copies
and standard VDisks have one copy. In a standard VDisk, the virtual
capacity and real capacity are the same. Virtual capacity is the amount
of storage that is available to a system on a VDisk copy.
For
example, if a non-mirrored, space-efficient VDisk has the real capacity
of 10 MB, a virtual capacity of 500 MB and the used capacity of 6
MB, the cluster has the following space properties:
- Space Allocated to VDisk is 10 MB.
- Total VDisk Copy Capacity is 500 MB.
- Total Used Capacity is 6 MB.
- Total VDisk Capacity is 500 MB.
If one non-space-efficient, mirrored VDisk with the capacity
of 500 MB exists, the cluster has the following space properties:
- Space allocated to VDisks is 1000 MB: two copies with 500 MB.
- Total VDisk Copy Capacity is 1000 MB.
- Total VDisk Capacity is 500 MB: only 500 MB is available to system.
Attributes
The
following attributes are displayed in the table:
- Total MDisk Capacity
- Displays the total capacity of all managed disks (MDisks) or logical
units (LUs) that are managed by the cluster and are in MDisk groups.
This includes MDisks that are in MDisk groups and MDisks that are
not in groups.
- Space in MDisk Groups
- Displays the total capacity of all MDisks that are in MDisk groups.
- Space Allocated to VDisks
- Displays the total capacity allocated to VDisks from MDisk Groups.
If you have configured space-efficient or mirrored VDisks, this value
can be different from the Total VDisk Copy Capacity and the Total
VDisk Capacity.
- Total Free Space
- Displays the total capacity of all the MDisks minus the total
capacity of all the VDisks (total managed disk capacity - space allocated
to virtual disks).
- Total Used Capacity
- Displays the total used capacity of all the VDisk copies in the
cluster. If you have configured space-efficient VDisks, this value
can be different from the Space Allocated to VDisks.
- Total Allocation
- Displays the ratio, in percent, of the total VDisk copy capacity
to the total MDisk capacity.
- Total VDisk Copy Capacity
- Displays the total virtual capacity of all the VDisk copies in
the cluster. If you have configured space-efficient VDisks, this
value can be different from the Space Allocated to VDisks. If you
have configured mirrored VDisks, this value can be different from
the Total VDisk Capacity.
- Total VDisk Capacity
- Displays the total capacity of all the VDisks in the cluster.
If you have configured mirrored VDisks, this value can be smaller
than the Total VDisk Copy Capacity.
