Deleting an image mode VDisk

You can use the svctask rmvdisk command-line interface (CLI) command to delete an existing image mode virtual disk (VDisk).

If the command succeeds (without the force flag), the underlying back-end controller logical unit becomes consistent with the data that a host might have previously read from the image mode VDisk. All write data is flushed to the underlying LUN.

If there is any data that is not staged in the write cache for this VDisk, the deletion of the VDisk fails. The command also fails if there are any virtual medium errors on the VDisk. You can use the force flag to allow a VDisk that contains medium errors to be deleted; however, using the force flag can create a potential data integrity issue.

If any Metro Mirror, FlashCopy or host mappings still exist for this VDisk, you cannot delete the VDisk unless the force flag is specified. When the force flag is specified, any mappings that remain are deleted and any data that is not staged in the write cache is deleted.

Deleting an image mode VDisk causes the managed disk (MDisk) that is associated with the VDisk to be ejected from the MDisk group. The mode of the MDisk is returned to unmanaged.
