Use the Viewing Ethernet Port IP Address Details panel
in the SAN Volume Controller Console to
view IP address information that is related to the node Ethernet port.
A node Ethernet port represents an iSCSI port on an SAN Volume Controller node.
Attributes
The
following attributes are displayed:
- IP address
- Displays the IP address of the node Ethernet port. SAN Volume Controller Console supports
both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
- Subnet Mask
- Displays the subnet mask of the node Ethernet port. Subnet masks
are only valid for IPv4 addresses.
- Prefix
- Displays the network prefix to be associated with
the node Ethernet port. Valid values are 0 - 127. A prefix can only
be set for IPv6 addresses.
- Gateway
- Displays the IP address for the default gateway for
the node Ethernet port. The gateway is only valid for IPv4 addresses.
- Failover Active
- Indicates whether node port IP address failover is active for
the node Ethernet port. Node port IP failover maintains consistent
connection between the cluster and the iSCSI-attached host if the
node which the host is attached to fails. The iSCSI hosts connect
to SAN Volume Controller through
the node port address for that node. If that node fails, the address
becomes unavailable, and the host loses communication with SAN Volume Controller and
access to data. To allow hosts to maintain access to data, the node
port IP address for the failed node is transferred to the partner
node. The partner node handles requests to both its own node port
IP addresses and node port IP address for the failed node. This
process is known as node port IP failover. In addition to the node
port IP address, the iSCSI name for the node is also transferred to
the partner node. When the node recovers, the node port IP address
and the iSCSI name return back to the original node.
Node port IP
failover only occurs if a node goes offline or is deleted from the
cluster and does not occur if the Ethernet connection is lost to the
port. Since an I/O group contains the maximum of two nodes in the
I/O group, each node acts as the partner node to the other node in
the same I/O group. Failover configuration is activated on the local
node until the partner node comes back online and activates the settings.

- Yes
- Indicates that node port IP failover is active.
- No
- Indicates that node port IP failover is not active.
Note: An additional table displays with partner node
IP address information when failover is active.
