Expanding virtual disks

You can expand the capacity of a virtual disk (VDisk) from the Expanding Virtual Disks panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console. You can use this capability to change the size of a target or secondary virtual disk (VDisk).

Introduction

Note: FlashCopy® source and target VDisks must be the same size. The Metro Mirror or Global Mirror primary and secondary VDisks must be the same size.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed:

Current Capacity
Displays the current capacity, in megabytes, of the selected VDisk.

Fields

You can update the following fields:

Managed Disk Candidates
Select the managed disk (MDisk) to allocate new extents. Click Add to add the selected MDisk to the Managed Disks Striped in This Order list. After you have added all the MDisks to use to expand the capacity of the VDisk, you can use the arrows to determine the order that they are used. If MDisks are not selected, data is striped across all of the MDisks with sufficient free space in the MDisk group.
Note: A mirrored VDisk is always formatted whenever it is expanded to maintain read stability.
Expand Capacity By
Enter the amount of megabytes by which you want to expand the capacity.
Format Additional Managed Disk Extents
Select this option if you want the additional extents to be formatted with zeros.
Note: Only the additional extents are formatted, not the entire VDisk.

Actions

The following actions are available:
