Shutting down a node

Use the Shutting Down Node panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console shut down the node.

Introduction

If all input power to a SAN Volume Controller cluster uninterruptible power supply units is removed, the cluster automatically shuts down in a controlled fashion. This power removal is a normally scheduled maintenance activity. In this case, the cluster shuts down in a controlled fashion using the Cluster Shutdown panel. This process stops the host I/O to the cluster and ensures that all of the host file systems are cleanly flushed to the SAN Volume Controller, rather than allowing the uninterruptible power supply units to instruct the cluster to power down on the loss of input power.

Attention: Never remove power directly from a SAN Volume Controller node while it is an active member of the cluster. Shut down the node first.

If the selected node to delete that has virtual disks (VDisks) that depend on Solid State Drives (SSD) on the node, you can select Force Shutdown of the node which takes the displayed VDisk offline. If you wish to maintain access to the VDisk, mirror the VDisk to another MDisk group.
