An application server is a host that is attached to the SAN and that runs applications.
These applications can be run on behalf of other hosts that are referred to as clients. Application servers access the virtual disks (VDisks) within the SAN Volume Controller, but they cannot access the managed disks (MDisks) in the RAID disk controllers.
