Use the Set Attributes panel in the Create Image Mode
Virtual Disk wizard to specify properties for the image mode virtual
disk (VDisk).
Fields
- Name
- Enter a name for the image mode VDisk. You must use the following
format:
- The name can be from 1 to 15 characters long.
- The name can include letters, numbers, hyphen, and underline characters.
It is not case-sensitive.
- The first character cannot be a number.
- The name cannot begin with the type of object. For example, vdisk0001 is
not valid.
- Unit device identifier
- Enter a unit device identifier as a decimal or hexadecimal value.
Valid input is a decimal number from 0 - 32767 or a hexadecimal value
from 0 - 0x7FFF. Hexadecimal values must be proceeded by 0x. The default
value is zero.
- Mirrored disk
- Select this option if you want the image mode VDisk to be a mirrored
disk. If the VDisk that you are creating
uses Solid State Drives (SSDs) that reside inside the
node, then the data that is stored on the VDisk is not protected against
SSD or node failures. To avoid data loss, add a VDisk copy that uses
SSDs inside another node. If you select this option, the
following options are available:
- Synchronization Rate
- Specifies the copy synchronization rate. A value of zero (0) prevents
synchronization. The default value is 50 (2 MB per second).
The following table shows the relationship of the
rate value to the data copied per second.

- Create copies in synch
- Select this to create synchronized copies. Select this option
when MDisks are already formatted or when read stability to unwritten
areas of the VDisk is not required.
- Space-efficient
- Select this to create a space-efficient copy of the VDisk. If
you select this option, these additional options will be available:
- Import existing space-efficient Copy
- Select this to import a space-efficient VDisk copy from the MDisk.
Note: This
option is only available for image mode VDisk copy.
- VDisk Capacity
- Specify the capacity for the VDisk. If you do not allocate the
size, the size initially allocated is the size of the MDisk.
Note: The
space initially allocated cannot be changed while the copy of the
VDisk is in image mode.
You can either specify a percentage
of real space for the copy or enter a specific amount of real capacity
to be allocated. If you enter a specific amount, you must also select
the units for the capacity. The following units can be selected:
- Warn when used capacity of the VDisk reaches
- Specify a threshold to send a warning message for the VDisk when
the capacity that is used first exceeds the specified level. You
can either specify a percentage of VDisk capacity or enter a specific
amount of capacity to be allocated. If you enter a specific amount,
you must also select the units for the space. The following units
can be selected:
If you select Autoexpand, the default
value for the warning level is 80% of the virtual disk capacity. If Autoexpand is
not selected, the default value for the warning level is 80% of the
real capacity. To disable warnings, specify 0 or 0%.
- Autoexpand
- The option has no immediate effect on image mode copies. However,
if the image mode copy is subsequently migrated to managed mode, the
copy is automatically expanded.
- Grain size
- Select the grain size in kilobytes (KB) for the image mode VDisk.
The following values are possible:
