After installing the support rails, you can install the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 in
the rack.
CAUTION:
To
avoid any hazard from the rack tipping forward when devices are installed,
observe all safety precautions for the rack into which you are installing
the device.
Perform the following steps to install the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4,
which is also called a "node," in the rack:
- On each side of the node, reposition the rail
that is attached to the side of the node. By doing this, the node
is more secure if the rack is moved. Remove the larger
screw 1 shown in Figure 1. Remove and save
screw 2 . Loosen screws 3 and 4 .
Slide the rail toward the back of the node and insert the screw that
you saved into the position where the large screw 1 had
been located. Tighten the three screws 2 , 3 ,
and 4 .

to the slide rail
- Align the node on the slide rails and push the node fully
into the rack. Secure the node to the front mounting flanges by tightening
the captive thumbscrews 1 shown
in Figure 2.
Note: Leave the shipping brackets 2 attached
to the slide rails unless the shipping brackets impede the node from
sliding fully into the rack. If you need to remove the shipping brackets,
continue with the next step.

that secure the node and the shipping brackets
- Optionally, press on the release tab 1 that
is indicated on the shipping bracket (shown in Figure 3), and remove the
shipping bracket from the slide rail. Repeat this step for the other
shipping bracket. Store the shipping brackets for future use.
Note: You must reinstall the shipping brackets on the slide
rails before you transport the rack with the node installed. To reinstall
the shipping brackets, reverse this step.

- Secure the slide rails to the rack, as shown in Figure 4. Slide the node
out of the rack 15 cm (6 in) and insert the M6 screws in each slide
rail. Push the node back into place.

secure the node to the rack
If you need to transport the rack to another location with
the node installed, ensure that the rails are fully extended to the
rear of the rack and that the shipping brackets are installed.
- Secure the node to the front mounting flanges by tightening
the captive thumbscrews 1 shown in Figure 2.
- Repeat this procedure for each SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 node
that needs to be installed.
Tip: If
you have available space, leave a 1U space between each node to improve
the air circulation in the rack.
