Viewing managed disk groups

Use the Viewing Managed Disk Groups panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to display all the MDisk groups that belong to a cluster.

Attributes

Select
Allows you to select an MDisk group to work with.
Note: Only one row can be selected at a time.
Name
Displays the name of an MDisk group.
State
Displays the state of the MDisk group. The state can be one of the following conditions:
Online
Indicates that the MDisk group is online and available. All the MDisks in the group are available.
Degraded Paths
Indicates that the one or more MDisks within the group are not accessible to one or more nodes in the cluster. Degraded path state is most likely the result of incorrect configuration of either the disk controller or the fibre-channel fabric. However, hardware failures in the disk controller, fibre-channel fabric, or node could also be a contributing factor to this state. Complete the following actions to recover from this state:
  1. Verify that the fabric configuration rules for storage systems are correct.
  2. Ensure that you have configured the storage system properly.
  3. Correct any errors in the error log.
Degraded Ports
Indicates that one or more 1220 errors have been logged against the one or more MDisks within the selected MDisk group. The 1220 error indicates that the remote fibre-channel port has been excluded from the MDisk. This error may cause reduced performance on the storage controller and usually indicates a hardware problem with the storage controller. To fix this problem you must resolve any hardware problems on the storage controller and fix the 1220 errors in the error log. To resolve these errors in the log, select Service and Maintenance > Run Maintenance Procedures. On the Maintenance Procedures panel, select Start Analysis. This action displays a list of unfixed errors that are currently in the error log. For these unfixed errors, select the error name to begin a guided maintenance procedure to resolve these errors. Errors are listed in descending order with the highest priority error listed first. Highest priority errors should be resolved first.
Offline
Indicates that the MDisk group is offline and unavailable. If all the MDisks are missing from the group, their status is either offline or excluded.
MDisk Count
Displays the number of MDisks in the group.
VDisk Count
Displays the number of virtual disk (VDisk) copies that have been created from this group.
Capacity (MB)
Displays the total disk capacity in the MDisk group.
Extent Size (MB)
Displays the size of the extents in the MDisk group.
Free Space (MB)
Displays the amount of free space, in MB, that is in this MDisk group. The space equals the total capacity that is available for creating new VDisks.
Virtual Capacity (MB)
The total virtual capacity of all the VDisk copies in the MDisk group. If you have configured space-efficient VDisk in the MDisk group this value can be different to the real capacity and the used capacity.
Used Capacity (MB)
Displays the total used capacity of all the VDisk copies in the MDisk group.
Real Capacity (MB)
Displays the total real capacity of all the VDisk copies in the MDisk group.
Overallocation
Displays the ratio of virtual capacity to real capacity, as a percentage.
Warning
Displays the warning level for this MDisk group. When the percentage of extents that are used in the MDisk group exceeds this level, a warning is issued. If this value is set to zero, the warning feature is disabled.

Actions

You can select one of the following tasks from the task list:
  • Create an MDisk Group
  • Rename an MDisk Group
  • Delete an MDisk Group
  • Add MDisks
  • Remove MDisks
  • Show MDisks in This Group
  • Show VDisks Using This Group
  • Show Capacity Information
Note: With the exception of the Create an MDisk Group task, you must first select an MDisk group before you can select a task.
Go
Click this button after selecting a task from the task list. Clicking Go launches the panel for the task that you selected.
Refresh
Click this button to refresh the table with changed values.
