Migrating virtual disks

You can migrate a VDisk copy from one MDisk group to another from the Migrate Virtual Disks panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console.

Introduction

Notes:
  1. After a migration is started, there is no way to stop it. Migration continues until it is complete unless an error condition stops or suspends it or the VDisk copy being migrated is deleted.
  2. You cannot migrate a VDisk copy between MDisk groups that have different extent sizes.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table:

Select
Allows you to select a VDisk copy to migrate to a MDisk group.
Copy ID
Displays the system-assigned identifier for the VDisk copy.
Status
Displays the state of the VDisk copy. The following values are possible:
Offline
Indicates that the VDisk copy is unavailable. One or more of the managed disks (MDisks) that make up the VDisk are degraded or offline and consequently the VDisk copy is unavailable.
Online
Indicates that the VDisk copy is available. All the MDisks that make up the VDisk copy are available.
Synchronize
Displays whether the VDisk copy is synchronized.
Primary
Displays whether this copy is the primary VDisk copy.
MDisk Group ID
Displays the system-assigned identifier for the MDisk group that contains the VDisk copy.
MDisk Group Name
Displays the name of the MDisk group that contains the VDisk copy.
Type
Displays the type of VDisk copy. The following values are possible:
Striped
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from multiple MDisks that are in the MDisk group.
Sequential
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from one MDisk that is in the MDisk group.
Image
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from one MDisk that is in the MDisk group. Provides a direct block-for-block translation from the MDisk to the VDisk. This is intended for MDisks that already contain data that was not written through the SAN Volume Controller.
Used Capacity
Displays the amount of capacity that has been used by the VDisk copy.
Real Capacity
Displays the total amount of capacity that is allocated to the VDisk copy.
Free Capacity
Displays the amount of capacity that is available to the VDisk copy.

Attributes

Attribute
Displays the name of the MDisk group that this VDisk copy belongs to.
Value
Displays the value that is assigned to this MDisk group.

Fields

Target MDisk group
Select an MDisk group to migrate this VDisk copy to.
Number of threads to devote to this process
Select the number of threads to use for processing the migration of data. The higher the number of threads, the higher the priority of the process and the resulting load that is placed on the system.

Actions

The following actions are available:

OK
Click this button to migrate the VDisk copy to another MDisk group.
Cancel
Click this button to exit the panel without migrating the VDisk copy to another MDisk group.
