License settings

Use the License Settings panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to select the appropriate licensing scheme for your cluster.

Introduction

Capacity licensing is based on the number of terabytes (TB) that are available for base virtualization, and the FlashCopy® feature and the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature. Capacity licensing is the initial licensing scheme if you purchased SAN Volume Controller (5639-VC*).

Physical disk licensing is based on the number of physical disks that you are virtualizing and whether you selected to license the FlashCopy feature, the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature, or both of these features. If you purchased SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition (5639-VW*), then physical disk licensing is your initial licensing scheme.

When you install SAN Volume Controller, you must select the appropriate licensing scheme that the purchased product license authorizes you to use. You can later change from physical disk licensing to capacity licensing, but you must purchase the alternative licensing scheme through IBM®.

Fields

The following fields are available:
5639-VC* Capacity Licensing
Select this option if you purchased SAN Volume Controller (5639-VC*). With this type of licensing, you select the number of terabytes that is available for your license for base virtualization, the FlashCopy feature, and the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature.
5639-VW* Capacity Licensing
Select this option if you purchased SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition (5639-VW*). This licensing scheme is based on the number of physical disks that you are virtualizing and whether you selected to license FlashCopy feature, the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature, or both of these features.

Capacity license settings

Use the Capacity License Settings panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to select the set licensing values for Capacity Licensing scheme for your cluster.

Capacity licensing is based on the number of terabytes (TB) that are available for base virtualization, and the FlashCopy feature and the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature. Capacity licensing is the initial licensing scheme if you purchased SAN Volume Controller (5639-VC*). To remain within the terms of your license, you must only enable the options specified in your license. The Virtualization Limit represents the amount of storage that you are permitted to virtualize. It must be set to a nonzero value before you can use the system. Consult your license to determine the following information:
  • The amount of virtual storage (in terabytes) that your license permits.
  • The Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and FlashCopy capacities that your license permits.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed.

Virtualization Limit (Terabytes)
Displays the amount of storage that you have allocated for this cluster.
FlashCopy Limit (Terabytes)
Displays the total amount of storage that is allocated for FlashCopy features for this cluster.
Metro and Global Mirror Limit (Terabytes)
Displays the total amount of storage that is allocated for Metro Mirror and Global Mirror feature for this cluster.

Physical Disks Licensing Settings

Use the Physical Disk Licensing Settings panel in the Create New Cluster wizard to set licensing for physical disks licensing.

You can update the following fields:
Physical Disk Limit
Enter the maximum number of physical disks that you are permitted to virtualize. To use the system, you must set the number of physical disks to a nonzero value. Valid values are 1 - 9999.
FlashCopy
Select whether the FlashCopy feature is included as part of your license. Select one of the following values:
Disabled
Select this option if your license does not permit the FlashCopy feature.
Enabled
Select this option if your license permits the FlashCopy feature.
