Shutting down the node

Use the Shutting Down Node panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console shut down the node.

Introduction

If all input power to a SAN Volume Controller cluster uninterruptible power supply units is removed, the cluster automatically shuts down in a controlled fashion. This power removal is a normally scheduled maintenance activity. In this case, the cluster shuts down in a controlled fashion using the Cluster Shutdown panel. This process stops the host I/O to the cluster and ensures that all of the host file systems are cleanly flushed to the SAN Volume Controller, rather than allowing the uninterruptible power supply units to instruct the cluster to power down on the loss of input power.

Attention: Never remove power directly from a SAN Volume Controller node while it is an active member of the cluster. Shut down the node first.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table:
Name
Displays the name that is assigned to this node. If you have not yet assigned a name, a default name is assigned. The default name is the string node followed by the system-assigned ID. You can click on the link in this column to display detailed information about the node.
State
Displays the current state of the node. The following values are possible:
Adding
Indicates that the node has been added to the cluster but is not synchronized with the state of the cluster.
Deleting
Indicates that the cluster is in the process of deleting the node. Any VDisk-to-host mappings and Copy Services interactions are being deleted.
Flushing
Indicates that the node is clearing its cache.
Online
Indicates that the node is operational, assigned to a cluster, and has access to the fibre-channel storage area network (SAN) fabric.
Offline
Indicates that the node is not operational. The node has been assigned to a cluster but is not available on the fibre-channel SAN fabric. Run the directed maintenance procedures to determine the problem.
WWNN
Displays the worldwide node name.
I/O Group Name
Displays the name of the I/O group that this node belongs to. The default name is the string io_grp, which is followed by the system-assigned ID.
Configuration Node
Indicates whether this node is the configuration node for the cluster. The following values are possible:
  • Yes
  • No

Actions

The following actions are available:

OK
Click this button to shut down the node.
Cancel
Click this button to exit this panel without shutting down the node.
