Removing the SAN Volume Controller 2145-4F2 microprocessor fan

Perform the following steps to remove the microprocessor fan:

  1. Turn off the node while ensuring that its data is mirrored and synchronized. See MAP 5350: Powering off a SAN Volume Controller node for more information.
  2. Remove the node from the rack and place it on a flat, static-protective surface. See Removing the SAN Volume Controller from a rack.
  3. Remove the top cover. See Removing the top cover.
  4. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
    Note: The fans are numbered from one to four, from left to right, as shown in Figure 1.
  5. Lift the fan upward out of the retaining clip.
    Note: To remove the fourth fan, first remove the third fan, then move the fourth fan to the left before lifting it.

  6. If you have any other tasks to do inside the node, do those tasks now.
