Use the Repairing Space-Efficient VDisk panel
in the SAN Volume Controller Console to
repair the metadata on a space-efficient virtual disk (VDisk). The
operation
automatically detects corrupted metadata and performs any necessary
repair
actions.
Introduction
Use
the Repair Space-Efficient VDisk panel when you have
received
a request from an IBM® service representative or when
you are directed through
maintenance procedures. Although the VDisk remains offline during
the repair,
the VDisk can still be moved between I/O groups. If a repair operation
completes
successfully and the volume was previously offline because of corrupted
metadata,
the repair brings the volume back online. Once started, a repair operation
cannot be paused or canceled; the repair can only be ended by deleting
the
copy. Only one repair process can be started at any given time. Subsequent
attempts to start new repair actions will fail.
Attributes
The
following attributes are displayed in the table:
- Select
- Allows you to select the copy to repair.
Note: Only one row can
be selected
at a time.
- Copy ID
- Displays
the system-assigned identifier for the VDisk copy.
- Status
- Displays the current status
of the VDisk copy. The following values are
possible:
- Offline
- Indicates that the VDisk
copy is unavailable. One or more of the managed
disks (MDisks) that make up the VDisk are degraded or offline and
consequently
the VDisk is unavailable.
- Online
- Indicates
that the VDisk copy is available. All the MDisks that make up
the VDisk are available.
- Synchronize
- Displays if the VDisk copy is synchronized. The following values
are possible:
- Yes
- Indicates that the VDisk
copy is synchronized.
- No
- Indicates
that the VDisk copy is not synchronized.
Note: You can only
repair a VDisk copy when the copies are synchronized.
- Primary
- Indicates
whether the VDisk copy is the primary copy.
- MDisk
Group ID
- Displays the system-assigned identifier for the managed
disk (MDisk) group
that is associated with the VDisk copy.
- MDisk
Group Name
- Displays the name of the MDisk group associated
with the VDisk copy.
- Type
- Displays
the type of VDisk copy. The following values are possible:
- Striped
- Indicates that the VDisk copy was
created from multiple
MDisks that are in the MDisk group. Extents are allocated on the MDisks
in
the specified order.
- Sequential
- Indicates
that the VDisk copy was created from one MDisk
that is in the MDisk group. Extents are sequentially allocated on
the MDisk.
- Used Capacity
- Displays the amount of space that has been used by the VDisk copy.
- Real Capacity
- Displays the real size
of a VDisk copy.
- Free Capacity
- Displays
the amount of space that is available to the VDisk copy.
Actions
The
following actions are available:

- Click
this button to repair the VDisk copy.
- Cancel
- Click this button to exit the panel without repairing the VDisk
