This topic describes how to replace the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 fans.
Take
precautions to avoid damage from static electricity. Wear an anti-static
wrist strap and use a static-protected mat or surface. For more information,
see Handling static-sensitive devices.
Perform the following steps to replace a failed fan:
- Position the replacement fan, shown in Figure 1, so that the
airflow arrow on the side of the fan points toward the rear of the
node.
Note: Correct airflow is from the front to the rear
of the node.

- Install the replacement fan in the bracket:
- Make sure that the fan cable sits in the channel
, as shown in Figure 2, on the side
of the fan.
- Route the fan cable into its slot in the fan bracket
top and then insert the fan into the bracket.
- Make sure that each of the soft blue tabs on the fan
is fully seated in its slot in the fan bracket.

- Reconnect the fan cable to the system board, routing
the cable in the same way as it was originally.
- Connect the cable of the replacement fan into the system-board
connector.
- Replace
the top cover. See Replacing the top cover.
- Place the node in the
rack. See Replacing the SAN Volume Controller in a rack.
- Replace the
cable-retention bracket. See Replacing the cable-retention bracket.
- Turn on the node.
