Replacing the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 fans

This topic describes how to replace the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 fans.

Take precautions to avoid damage from static electricity. Wear an anti-static wrist strap and use a static-protected mat or surface. For more information, see Handling static-sensitive devices.
Perform the following steps to replace a failed fan:
  1. Position the replacement fan, shown in Figure 1, so that the airflow arrow on the side of the fan points toward the rear of the node.
Note: Correct airflow is from the front to the rear of the node.

  2. Install the replacement fan in the bracket:
    1. Make sure that the fan cable sits in the channel reference key one, as shown in Figure 2, on the side of the fan.
    2. Route the fan cable into its slot in the fan bracket top and then insert the fan into the bracket.
    3. Make sure that each of the soft blue tabs on the fan is fully seated in its slot in the fan bracket.

    4. Reconnect the fan cable to the system board, routing the cable in the same way as it was originally.
  3. Connect the cable of the replacement fan into the system-board connector.
  4. Replace the top cover. See Replacing the top cover.
