SAN fabric

When you are defining zones in the SAN fabric with the SAN Volume Controller, follow these requirements.

If your SAN includes SAN Volume Controller nodes, you must divide it into two distinct zones: a host zone and a disk zone.

Host zone

The host zone is that portion of the SAN that consists of the hosts and the SAN Volume Controller nodes. Hosts can see and directly address the SAN Volume Controller nodes. However, hosts cannot detect and directly address the disk controller systems that are connected to the SAN Volume Controller nodes.

Disk zone

The disk zone is that portion of the SAN that consists of the SAN Volume Controller nodes, the disk controller systems, and the devices attached to the disk controller systems. The SAN Volume Controller nodes can detect and directly address the logical units (LUs) presented by the disk controllers. The SAN Volume Controller nodes take control of all the physical storage they find in the disk zone.
