Setting cluster time

Use the Setting Cluster Time panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to view or change the current cluster settings for the date, time, and time zone. You can also configure time settings by using a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server, which can be used to set the cluster time from an outside source. When you use the NTP server, you ensure that the time settings are consistent across different clusters.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table:
Cluster date
Displays the existing setting for the cluster date.
Cluster time
Displays the existing setting for the cluster time.
Cluster time zone
Displays the existing setting for the cluster time zone.
NTP server
Displays the IP address of the NTP server that is used to manage time settings on the cluster.

Fields

You can update the following fields:

Set NTP Server

Use the Set NTP Server field to specify the IP address of the NTP server. The system time of the configuration node adjusts to the time values that are obtained from the NTP server and modified according to the cluster time zone. The time on other nodes in the cluster is updated based on the time on the configuration node. Enter the corresponding IP address for the NTP server. The SAN Volume Controller Console supports both IPv4 and IPv6 address formats. If you are using a remote server to authenticate user to the cluster, you can use a NTP server to ensure consistent time settings between the cluster and the remote authentication service.
Note: The options that are displayed are based on the current IP address format that is configured for the cluster.
IPv4
Enter the IPv4 address for the NTP server.
IPv6
Enter the IPv6 address for the NTP server.
Dual Stack (IPv4 and IPv6)
Use the radio button to select whether the NTP server IP address you are providing is an IPv4 address or an IPv6 address. Then enter the IP address in the appropriate place.

Modify Time

Use the Modify Time settings to change the system time on the configuration node. The configuration node automatically sends all date and time updates to all nodes in the cluster to ensure that all nodes are synchronized. If you selected to use an NTP server to manage time settings on your cluster, these options are disabled.

Date (01 - 31)
Enter the day of the month to use for the cluster date settings.
Month (01 - 12)
Enter the number that corresponds with the month to use for the cluster date settings.
Year (20xx)
Enter the current calendar year to use for the cluster date settings.
Hours (00 - 23)
Enter the time in hours to use for the cluster time settings.
Minutes (00 - 59)
Enter the minutes to use for the cluster time settings.

Modify Time Zone

Use the Modify Time Zone settings to change the time zone on the configuration node. The configuration node automatically sends all time zone updates to all nodes in the cluster to ensure that all nodes are synchronized.
Time Zone
Select the appropriate time zone for the cluster.

Actions

The following actions are available:

Set NTP Server
Click this button to set the specified NTP server as the method of managing time on the cluster and its nodes.
Delete NTP Server
Click this button to delete the current settings for the NTP server. This action displays only when the NTP server has been set.
Update Cluster Time
Click this button to update applicable time and date settings with the values you have entered.
Update Time Zone
Click this button to update the cluster time zone setting to the value you have selected.
