Use the Shrink/Expand
Space-Efficient Disks panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to
increase or decrease the real capacity of a space-efficient virtual
disk (VDisk).
Attributes
The
following attributes are displayed in the table:
- Select
- Allows you to select the VDisk copy to either shrink or expand
capacity.
Note: Only
one row can be selected at a time.
- Copy
ID
- Displays the system-assigned identifier for the VDisk copy.
- Status
- Displays the current
status state of the space-efficient VDisk. The following
values are possible:
- Offline
- Indicates that
the VDisk is unavailable. One or more of the managed disks
(MDisks) that make up the VDisk are degraded or offline and consequently
the
VDisk is unavailable.
- Online
- Indicates
that the VDisk is available. All the MDisks that make up the
VDisk are available.
- Synchronize
- Indicates whether the VDisk copies are synchronized.
- Primary
- Indicates whether the VDisk copy is the
primary copy.
- MDisk Group ID
- Displays
the system-assigned identifier for the managed disk (MDisk) group
associated with the space-efficient VDisk.
- MDisk
Group Name
- Displays the name of the MDisk group associated
with the space-efficient
VDisk.
- Type
- Displays the type of
space-efficient VDisk. The following values are possible:
- Striped
- Indicates that the VDisk was created
from multiple MDisks
that are in the MDisk group. Extents are allocated on the MDisks in
the specified
order.
Note: If the selected VDisk
is mirrored
copy, the copy is expanded across all the MDisks in the MDisk group,
regardless
of the MDisk that has been selected.
- Sequential
- Indicates that the VDisk was created from one MDisk
that
is in the MDisk group. Extents are sequentially allocated on the MDisk.
- Used Capacity
- Displays
the amount of space that has been used by the space-efficient
VDisk.
- Real Capacity
- Displays the
real size of a space-efficient VDisk.
- Free
Capacity
- Displays the amount of space that is available to
the space-efficient
VDisk.
Fields
The
following fields can be updated:
- Shrink
- Select
this option if you want to decrease the real capacity
of the space-efficient VDisk.
Note: For space-efficient VDisk, real
capacity
can only be shrunk up until the used capacity is reached. Further
shrinking
is restricted to prevent data loss.
- Expand
- Select this option if you want to increase the real
capacity
of a selected space-efficient VDisk.
- Amount
to shrink/expand
- Enter the amount by which you would like
to either decrease or increase
the real capacity of the selected space-efficient VDisk. The following
units
can be selected:
- MDisk Candidates
- Select
the MDisk to use to allocated new extents to the space-efficient
VDisk. If you are working with VDisk copies, select MDisk for each
copy.
Note: You
can only select MDisk candidates if you have selected Expand a
striped VDisk. This option is only available for sequential VDisks
copies.
Click Add to
add the selected MDisk to the Managed Disks Striped in
This Order list.
After you have add all the MDisks to use to expand the capacity of
the VDisk,
you can use the arrows to determine the order in which they are used.
Actions
The
following actions are available:
- OK
- Click
this button to shrink or expand the space-efficient VDisk.
- Cancel
- Click this button to exit the
panel without shrinking or expanding the
space-efficient VDisk.
