Splitting a copy from a VDisk

Use the Split a Copy from VDisk panel in the SAN Volume Controller Console to create a separate VDisk from a synchronized VDisk copy.

Attributes

The following attributes are displayed in the table:

Select
Allows you to select the copy to split from a selected VDisk.
Note: Only one row can be selected at a time.
Copy ID
Displays the system-assigned identifier for the VDisk copy.
Status
Displays the current status state of the VDisk copy. The following values are possible:
Offline
Indicates that the VDisk copy is unavailable. One or more of the managed disks (MDisks) that make up the VDisk copy are degraded or offline and consequently the VDisk is unavailable.
Online
Indicates that the copy of the VDisk is available. All the MDisks that make up the VDisk are available.
Synchronize
Displays if the VDisk copies are synchronized. The following values are possible:
Yes
Indicates that the VDisk copy is synchronized.
No
Indicates that the VDisk copy is not synchronized.
Primary
Indicates if the VDisk copy is the primary copy.
MDisk Group ID
Displays the system-assigned identifier for the managed disk (MDisk) group that is associated with the VDisk copy.
MDisk Group Name
Displays the name of the MDisk group associated with the VDisk copy.
Type
Displays the type of VDisk copy. The following values are possible:
Striped
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from multiple MDisks that are in the MDisk group. Extents are allocated on the MDisks in the specified order.
Sequential
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from one MDisk that is in the MDisk group. Extents are sequentially allocated on the MDisk.
Image
Indicates that the VDisk copy was created from one MDisk that is in the MDisk group. Provides a direct block-for-block translation from the MDisk to the VDisk copy. This is intended for MDisks that already contain data that was not written through the SAN Volume Controller.
Used Capacity
Displays the amount of space that has been used by the VDisk copy.
Real Capacity
Displays the real size of a VDisk copy. This size is can either be a percentage of capacity or a specific amount of space in megabytes (MB).
Free Capacity
Displays the amount of space that is available to the VDisk copy.

Fields

The following fields can be updated:
Name
Enter a name for the new VDisk that the split copy will create.
Force split
Select this if you want to force the split to proceed even though the copy you are trying to split is not synchronized.
Note: The split copy might not be point-in-time consistent.
Select the I/O Group
Select an I/O group from the list of available I/O groups for the VDisk that you are creating or let the system choose the I/O group.
Note: By default, the VDisk is created in the same I/O group as the VDisk that the copy is split from.
Select Preferred Node
Select the preferred node for the VDisk that you are creating or let the system choose the preferred node.
Note: When you let the system choose the preferred node, the system performs workload balancing by managing the I/O traffic for the VDisks across multiple nodes.
Select the cache mode
Select the type of cache mode to use for the new VDisks. The following values are possible:
Read/Write
Indicates that all read and write I/O operations that are performed by the new VDisk are stored in the cache.
None
Indicates that all read and write I/O operations that are performed by the new VDisk are not stored in the cache.
Unit device identifier
Enter a unit device identifier for the new VDisks. This field is used only by hosts that are using the OpenVMS operating system. For other operating systems, setting a unit device identifier is not required.

Actions

The following actions are available:

OK
Click this button to split the copy from a selected VDisk.
Cancel
Click this button to exit the panel without splitting the copy from a selected VDisk.
