Planning tasks that customers complete before the installation

These tasks can be performed by IBM® or an IBM Business Partner if a service contract to complete them is in place.

Complete all IBM System Storage® Productivity Center (SSPC) and SAN Volume Controller physical planning charts.	For the SSPC, complete the planning worksheet in the Appendix of the IBM System Storage Productivity Center Introduction and Planning Guide. To access the SSPC publications, go to the Printable documentation section and click the IBM System Storage Productivity Center link from IBM Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center Information Center Access and complete the SAN Volume Controller charts and tables from Support for SAN Volume Controller (2145) Web site. Click the Plan/upgrade tab. Under Sizing/Capacity, click SAN Volume Controller planning. Click your language to view the Planning Guide abstract. The charts and tables are located under the Related information heading.

Make sure that you can log on to the SAN Volume Controller Console.	Accessing the SAN Volume Controller Console

Register your product.	Support for IBM System Storage and TotalStorage® products
Optionally, check for an updated version of the SAN Volume Controller Console (GUI) software.	To check for an updated version of the SAN Volume Controller CIM Agent and GUI software, click the Install/use tab and then click the link for the appropriate recommended software level from theSupport for SAN Volume Controller (2145) Web site. To check for any SSPC software updates, go to Support for System Storage Productivity Center (SSPC).
Configure the SSPC.	See the chapter in the IBM System Storage Productivity Center User's Guide about configuring the SSPC for the SAN Volume Controller.
