Creating a virtual disk–Introduction

You can use the Create Virtual Disk wizard in the SAN Volume Controller Console to create both sequential and striped virtual disks (VDisks).

A virtual disk (VDisk) is a logical disk that the cluster presents to the storage area network (SAN).

You can create a maximum of 2048 sequential or striped VDisks for each I/O group at one time.

To learn more about VDisks, click View Tutorial to launch the Using virtual disks e-Learning module that explains different types of VDisks, space-efficient VDisks, VDisk mirroring, and other concepts that are related to VDisks.

The wizard takes you through the following steps to create a VDisk:
  • Select an I/O group and preferred node
  • Set attributes for the VDisk
  • Set space-efficient settings
  • Select an MDisk group, MDisks, and extent size
  • Name the VDisk
  • Verify attributes
