Resolving problems with the node canister

If you have been directed to this information, initialization cannot proceed or has failed due to a node canister problem. Several actions must be taken to resolve these issues.

About this task

Use the LED display on the rear of the node canister that you are initializing to verify if it has started correctly.

If the system status LED (This image represents the system status LED.) is lit, then the node canister has started. However if the system status LED remains unlit, then there is a problem with the node canister. Use the following steps to determine any necessary actions:

Procedure

  1. Turn off the switch on both power supplies.
  2. Try reseating the node canister to see if it then starts. On the canister, unlatch the release levers and pull them open. The canister moves out of the slot approximately 0.6 cm (0.25 inch). Pull the canister out until all of the LEDs turn off on the canister. This can take a few seconds. Pull the canister out 50 mm (2 inches). Be careful that you do not inadvertently disturb or remove any cables connected to other components of the system.   3. Push the canister back in until it stops moving, then close the two handles ensuring they close fully.
  4. Wait up to 10 minutes for the power LED (This icon shows the power LED.) to be on and the system status LED (This icon shows the system status LED.) to be blinking. When both the LEDs reach these states, continue with the initialization wizard. If the LEDs do not reach this state, proceed to next step.
  5. Remove all cables from the canister. Ensure that you record where each cable was connected to the system.
  6. Remove the canister by opening the two securing handles and pulling the canister out of the enclosure.

  7. Turn the canister over and remove the cover of the canister by depressing the recessed, blue touch points on the lid and sliding the lid away from you.

  8. Ensure that the battery is seated correctly. Hold each end of the battery by the handles which are indicated by the large arrows in the following graphic and lift it up vertically until it releases. Use the same handles to push the canister down gently to ensure that the battery is fully seated on the connectors.
    Note: The battery is pushed in a direction perpendicular to the board. These instructions and the graphic assume that the canister has been placed on a flat surface; therefore, reseating the battery requires a downward motion. If the canister is positioned in another way, ensure that the battery is reseated correctly.

  9. Replace the canister lid and reinsert the canister into the enclosure ensuring the two handles close fully.
  10. Wait up to 10 minutes for the power LED (This icon shows the power LED.) to be on and the system status LED (This icon shows the system status LED.) to be blinking. When both the LEDs reach these states, continue with the initialization wizard. If the LEDs do not reach this state, proceed to next step.
  11. If after completing these tasks, the node canister does not start or fails to initialize, contact your service representative to replace the node canister. If the other canister in the enclosure is in the correct state, with its system status LED blinking, you can continue the initialization by inserting the USB flash drive into that canister. After the system initializes, you can continue with system setup. Alerts are added to the event log indicating a canister is missing or failed. Do not remove the faulty canister until a replacement is available. Removing the canister before the replacement is added can disrupt the cooling system on the enclosure.
