IBM periodically releases firmware updates that are intended to,
among other things, increase overall reliability, improve tape handling,
further reduce any possibility of data loss/data error, and provide continued
enhancements to diagnostic capabilities.

The readme files contain information that may not be included in the IBM
TS2240 documentation. The readme files take precedence over the documentation.
Therefore, any information in this file that conflicts with information
in the documentation will supercede the SOSG.

The IBM TS2240 Tape Device is responsible for providing basic
and advanced tape functionality for backup/restore and archive environments. For more
details on functionality and other operation procedures, consult your copy of the Setup,
Operator, and Service Guide. A softcopy is available for viewing at the following link:

In order to provide maximum performance and reliability, it is recommended that the latest version
of microcode is installed on your IBM LTO tape devices. These firmware updates are intended to,
among other things, increase overall reliability, improve tape handling, further reduce any
possibility of data errors, and provide continued enhancements to diagnostic capabilities.

CODE LEVEL NAMING CONVENTIONS FOR FULL HIGH & HALF HIGH DRIVES:
XH_T_xxxxLY.ro
XH is form Factor(Full High-FH,Half High-HH)
T is the connection (SAS, Fibre, SCSI)
xxxx is the firmware version
L is for LTO
Y is the drive generation (1 for Ultrium1, 2 for Ultrium2, 3 for Ultrium3, etc.)

SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS:
This tape drive works with the following operating systems: AIX, HPUX, Linux,
Solaris, Windows, i5OS. For details on supported tape attachment please refer to the
System Storage Interoperation Center website.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT) provides the customer with functionality
to perform maintenance tasks and run diagnostic tasks to determine tape
device issues. This is available to download with the device driver.

Note: After GEN4 Drive Code 7A31 or later is installed, code down leveling to a code prior to this
will not be possible. This is a result of the code being signed for the FIPS Certification process.
FIPS is the US government regulation for Information protection and has certain requirements in
order to get certified. Development has insured that all previous fixes are in the 7A31 code level or
later so there should be no reason to back level to an earlier code level.

Note: Depending if your tape drive is standalone or in a library, will determine what drive code
should be installed and is supported. See you tape product's web page for guidance.

Note: LT04 model H4V drives will not accept code levels below A9Q2.
