Permanently Removing FC I/O Blades

Library firmware monitors all FC I/O blades after they are installed in the library. Once an FC I/O blade is installed, the library expects the blade to be in the same installed location after every power cycle. If an FC I/O blade is permanently removed or relocated to another location in the library, the library firmware must be configured to stop monitoring the blade location. This is done by clicking the appropriate Remove button on the Setup - Blade Control screen. If this is not done, a Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) ticket could be generated.

You do not need to configure the library to stop monitoring an FC I/O blade if the failed blade is replaced with a new FC I/O blade. For instructions on how to remove and replace an FC I/O blade customer replaceable unit (CRU), see the Dell™ PowerVault™ ML6000 Tape Library User's Guide.

NOTE: This operation should not be performed concurrently by multiple administrators logged in from different locations. You can access the appropriate screens, but you cannot apply changes while another administrator is performing the same operation.

You need administrator privileges to perform this operation.

  1. From the Setup menu, select FC I/O Blades > FC I/O Blade Control.

The Setup - FC I/O Blade Control screen displays. The screen lists all the FC I/O blades found in the library.

  2. Using the location coordinate listed on the screen, identify the FC I/O blade you removed or relocated and click Remove.
  3. Click OK to acknowledge the warning message about host application communication loss. The Progress Window displays. The Progress Window contains information on the action, elapsed time, and status of the requested operation.
