Inhibit reclaim schedules (Text version)

This is a brief overview of inhibiting reclaim schedules for the IBM® TS7700 family.

Reclamation is the process of moving the remaining active stacked data from one physical volume to another in order to free up expired space on physical volumes. Thresholds can be configured through policy management. Since reclamation is a drive intensive process, the TS7700 provides the ability to inhibit the process during periods of time when batch windows and other heavy host loads are expected to run. By inhibiting reclamation during these periods, more drive and TS7700 resources can be given to these critical host workloads.

For example, a tape reclamation may occur for several hours beginning at 5:00 pm. If a job with a tight deadline is scheduled to run from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, you can choose to inhibit, or suspend, the reclaim operation in order to avoid overtaxing available resources, and slowing performance.

Navigate to the Schedules table by selecting Cluster Settings from the Settings menu. Then click Inhibit Reclaim Schedules.

The Schedules table displays the list of inhibit reclaim schedules defined for each partition of the grid. It displays the day, time, and duration of any scheduled reclamation interruption. All inhibit reclaim dates and times are displayed first in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and then in local time.

This has been a brief overview of inhibiting reclaim schedules for the TS7700 family. For additional information, see the other topics in IBM Knowledge Center.
