Setting up user access (Text version)

This eLearning module will give you a brief overview of user roles and permissions and how to set up user access for the IBM® TS7700.

You can set up user access based on five standard roles: Administrators, Managers, Lead operators, Operators, and Read Only. In addition, you can create customized roles. Customized roles can take on any combination of roles and permissions that you define.

Administrators have the highest level of authority and can perform all system functions including those listed here.

Compared with administrators, managers can perform a more limited range of tasks. They have access to monitoring information and performance data and functions, and can add, modify, or delete user accounts.

Lead operators can configure more system changes and perform more day-to-day operational tasks than managers. The lead operator has nearly identical permissions to the administrator, but cannot change network configuration, feature licenses, user accounts, or custom roles.

Compared with lead operators, operators perform only day-to-day operational tasks and are not permitted to perform most of the administrative tasks associated with the system.

The read only role can view all pages but cannot perform any actions.

You can set up customized roles. The customized roles can perform any tasks set up by the Administrator.

To modify users, click the Action list in the authentication policies table, select Modify and click Go. The Modify Local Accounts screen displays. You can select Add, Modify, Delete, or Reset the password expiration from the list, then click Go.

When adding a local account, create a user name and password for the user, then assign a user a role from the available drop-down selections. Select the clusters that are available to the user and click OK. A confirmation message is displayed that confirms that you have successfully added the user.

This has been a brief overview of user roles and permissions and how to set up user access for the TS7700. For additional information, see the other topics in IBM Knowledge Center.
