How should I install my system?

<Previous Next>

Now, you're ready to install the DS6000 machine. The following steps provide a high-level procedure for installing the system:

  1. Unpack the box and check your material against the shipment order.
  2. Install the device in the rack. Because the weight of the DS6000 you ordered can vary, installing the device with all of its components might require up to three people. If you remove the components from the DS6000 frame before lifting the device into the racks, one person might be enough.
  3. Route the cabling for the enclosure and host attachments.
  4. Install the management software, including the DS Storage Manager user interface and the DS6000 command-line interface (CLI), and use it to perform the initial hardware device configuration.

More detailed steps about installation can be found in the IBM System Storage DS6000 Information Center and the IBM System Storage DS6000 Quick Start Card.
