A customized real-time configuration (Text version)

<Previous Next>

There are several steps in creating a configuration in real-time mode.

You begin by assigning a storage unit to a storage complex. Several storage units can make up a storage complex, which can be supported by a single Management Console. When you work in real-time mode, your system is your storage complex, so you will see that one storage complex has been created.

You now need to activate your licenses. To do this, obtain your feature activation codes and apply them to your storage unit by importing a file that you download from the IBM Disk Storage Feature Activation Web site.

Next, configure the storage unit by setting the date, time, time zone and other storage unit settings.

Now, you define shipping or contact information for a customer account. When you establish remote support notifications, your customer account information is used by IBM to contact you when service problems occur.

Your next step is to configure Call Home, SNMP, and service information message notifications for a storage unit. Call Home support and SNMP messages provide notifications to you and IBM if an event occurs on your storage unit.

Now, configure the I/O ports that have host attachments assigned to them. A host attachment can be configured to access specific disk subsystem I/O ports or all of them.

You must have at least one array and one rank defined before creating the host system. When you create this system, you define your host ports, specify the storage units for each host attachment, and define host attachment parameter values.

Now, continue configuring your storage.
