A customized simulated configuration (Text version)

<Previous Next>

There are several steps in creating a configuration in simulated mode.

The first step is to create a configuration file that contains information for one or more storage units and host systems.

Next, create a storage complex, which is a collection of storage units.

Create or import a storage unit. To create simulated configurations, you'll need to first define your storage unit hardware. You can perform this task manually or you can import an e-Config file that contains information about your hardware. If you are unfamiliar with e-Config files, contact your IBM service representative.

Now, you define shipping or contact information for a customer account. When you establish remote support notifications, your customer account information is used by IBM to contact you when service problems occur.

Your next step is to configure Call home, SNMP, and service information message notifications for a storage unit. Call home support and SNMP messages provide notifications to you and IBM if an event occurs on your storage unit.

Now, configure the I/O ports that have host attachments assigned to them. A host attachment can be configured to access specific disk subsystem I/O ports, or all of them.

You must have at least one array and one rank defined before creating the host system. When you create this system, you define your host ports, specify the storage units for each host attachment, and define host attachment parameter values.

Now, continue configuring your storage and then apply the configuration by applying it to the storage management console.
