How do volume groups simplify LUN masking? (Text version)

<Previous Next>

Host system access to volumes, or LUNs, is controlled through the use of volume groups. Hosts attachments assigned to the same volume group share access to data. So, instead of dealing with individual Host bus Adapters and volumes, you can now perform LUN masking through the use of host attachments, volume groups and I/O ports. This helps identify the specific volume groups that can be accessed by specific ports. An alternate way to secure individual volumes is through zoning. Refer to the Information Center for more details.
